On the PGA Tour, starting the new season off, is two tournaments in Hawaii. The first one is the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and it happens in Maui from January 6th to the 9th. After that, the Sony Open in Hawaii will be held. It all happens at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii with a $5,500,000 purse. It runs from January 12th through the 15th and Mark Wilson won last year, taking home $990,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points. The following tournament will be the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, California.
To open the 2012 PGA TOUR season, 18 of the 26 rookies are under the age of 30, with eight of those players under the age of 25. The youngest player on TOUR in 2012 is South Korea’s Seung-yul Noh, who was 20 years, 7 months and 21 days on Jan. 1, 2012.
Incidentally, the last player in his 20s to win the Sony Open in Hawaii wasPaul Stankowski (1997), while the last player to record his first PGA TOUR victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii was Jerry Kelly (2002).
